This is a list of mayors of Baltimore, Maryland.
As of January 1, 2013, the Office of Mayor of the City of Baltimore has changed hands 59 times with 49 different individuals assuming office, since the election of James Calhoun originally in 1794 under the old Town government (since the merger authorized by the General Assembly of the Province of Maryland of the villages of first Baltimore Town (of 1729) and Jones's Town (1732) and then later the enlarged Baltimore Town and Fells Point, 17XX), and continued as the new first mayor under the new City charter in 1797, when the City was incorporated (again under the authority of the General Assembly, now the new State Legislature beginning in 1796) as the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, serving until 1804.
Six individuals are credited with multiple, non-consecutive returns to the office after completing an initial term (and are counted as separate mayoraltys, similar to the numbering of persons who have held the office and the number of separate administrations of the American Presidents, such as Grover Cleveland, who served as the twenty-second (1885-1889), and the twenty-fourth (1893-1897), presidents - with Benjamin Harrison, [1889-1893] intervening in between as the twenty-third):
Edward Johnson was "returned" (after having an interim period out of office) - twice, John Montgomery - once, Ferdinand C. Latrobe, elected four times, Howard W. Jackson - once, William F. Broening - once and Theodore R. McKeldin - once.
